Our call is to live the righteousness of God in Christ. It is God’s grace and righteousness that lays claim on us poor sinners. We are constant debtors that can claim no credit for the privilege of God to work through us and for us.
It is from this identity that we live the strength of our faith. Our image flows from our identity not the other way around. The pharisee never looked up to God. He was caught up in appearances. The tax collector looked toward the God of truth, righteousness and mercy; and from his prayerful, humble address he received God’s justice.
